Answers to common questions about Clipfio for Mac.

How do I start recording?

Click the Clipfio icon in the menu bar, choose full screen, a window, an area or your displays, pick your sound sources and press record. You can also start and stop with a keyboard shortcut you set in Settings.

Is there a limit on length or number of recordings?

No. Record for as long as you like, as often as you like. The only limit is the space on your Mac.

Where are my recordings saved?

In a folder you choose, as ordinary video and audio files you can open in any app. Transcripts and the search index are kept on your Mac alongside them.

How does searching for a moment work?

Clipfio writes a transcript of every recording using speech recognition on your Mac. Type a word or phrase and you'll see every moment it was said. Click a result and the recording opens at that second.

Can I record sound from my Mac, my microphone and one app?

Yes. Take sound from the system, a microphone or a single app, or any mix of them. Each source is recorded on its own track, so you can adjust or mute one without touching the others.

What does podcast clean-up do?

It removes long silences, reduces background noise and levels your voice to the podcast loudness standard. Export the result to MP3, WAV or M4A. Your original recording stays as it was.

Why does macOS ask for permissions?

macOS asks before any app can record your screen, use the microphone or camera, or show your clicks and key presses. Clipfio only asks for each one when you first use the feature that needs it. You can change them in System Settings, under Privacy & Security. Our privacy policy explains each one.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Recording, transcription, clean-up and exports all happen on your Mac, and there's no account. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you share it.
